Why in the news?

India is going to conduct its first maritime exercise with South East Asian countries off the coast of Singapore.

Important point

India will participate in the first ASEAN India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2023) to be held from 2 to 8 May 2023.

ASEAN India Maritime Exercise-2023

• ASEAN India Maritime Exercise-2023 is being done in two phases.
• The harbor phase of the exercise is scheduled to be conducted at Changi Naval Center from May 2 to May 4, while the sea phase will be conducted from May 7 to 8 in the South China Sea.
• Indian Naval Ships INS Satpura and INS Delhi have arrived in Singapore on 01 May 2023.
• INS Delhi, India's first indigenously built guided missile destroyer and INS Satpura, an indigenously built guided missile stealth frigate, are a part of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet based at Visakhapatnam.
• The ships, during their port call at Singapore, will also participate in the International Maritime Defense Exhibition and International Maritime Security Conference organized by Singapore.

Importance

• AIME-2023 will provide an opportunity for Indian Navy and ASEAN Navies to work together and conduct seamless operations in the maritime domain.

Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)

• It is a regional grouping that promotes economic, political and security cooperation. It was established with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) in Bangkok, Thailand in August 1967 by the founders of ASEAN, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. • Its presidency rotates annually based on the alphabetical order of the English names of the member states.
• The current chairmanship is being held by Cambodia.
• The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) includes Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei, the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Myanmar.

भारत सिंगापुर के तट पर दक्षिण पूर्व एशियाई देशों के साथ अपना पहला समुद्री अभ्यास करने जा रहा है।

भारत 2 से 8 मई 2023 के बीच होने वाले पहले आसियान भारत समुद्री अभ्यास (एआईएमई-2023) में भाग लेगा।

आसियान भारत समुद्री अभ्यास -2023

• आसियान भारत समुद्री अभ्यास -2023 दो फेज में किया जा रहा है।
• अभ्यास का बंदरगाह चरण दो मई से चार मई तक चांगी नौसेना केंद्र में आयोजित किया जाना है, जबकि समुद्री चरण सात से आठ मई तक दक्षिण चीन सागर में आयोजित किया जाएगा।
• भारतीय नौसेना के जहाज आईएनएस सतपुड़ा और आईएनएस दिल्ली, 1 मई 2023 को सिंगापुर में पहुंच गए हैं।
• आईएनएस दिल्ली, भारत का पहला स्वदेश निर्मित गाइडेड मिसाइल विध्वंसक और आईएनएस सतपुड़ा, एक स्वदेश निर्मित गाइडेड मिसाइल स्टील्थ फ्रिगेट, विशाखापत्तनम में स्थित भारतीय नौसेना के पूर्वी बेड़े का एक हिस्सा हैं।
• ये जहाज, सिंगापुर में अपने पोर्ट कॉल के दौरान, सिंगापुर द्वारा आयोजित अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुद्री रक्षा प्रदर्शनी और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय समुद्री सुरक्षा सम्मेलन में भी भाग लेंगे।

महत्व

• एआईएमई-2023 भारतीय नौसेना और आसियान नौसेनाओं को एक साथ मिलकर काम करने और समुद्री क्षेत्र में निर्बाध संचालन करने का अवसर प्रदान करेगा।

दक्षिण पूर्व एशियाई देशों के संघ (आसियान)

• यह एक क्षेत्रीय समूह है जो आर्थिक , राजनीतिक और सुरक्षा सहयोग को बढ़ावा देता है।इसकी स्थापना अगस्त 1967 में बैंकाक, थाईलैंड में आसियान घोषणापत्र (बैंकॉक घोषणा) पर आसियान के संस्थापकों, अर्थात् इंडोनेशिया, मलेशिया, फिलीपींस, सिंगापुर और थाईलैंड द्वारा हस्ताक्षर के साथ की गई थी।
• सदस्य राज्यों के अंग्रेजी नामों के वर्णानुक्रम के आधार पर इसकी अध्यक्षता वार्षिक रूप से बदलती रहती है।
• वर्तमान अध्यक्षता कंबोडिया द्वारा की जा रही है।
• दक्षिण पूर्व एशियाई देशों के संघ (आसियान) में इंडोनेशिया, थाईलैंड, वियतनाम, लाओस, ब्रुनेई, फिलीपींस, सिंगापुर, कंबोडिया, मलेशिया और म्यांमार शामिल हैं।
