Why in the news?

Recently, Indian-American citizen 'Neeli Bendapudi' (59) was honored with the prestigious 'Immigrant Achievement Award' 2023.

Important point

He has been given this award for his contribution in the field of higher education.

Neeli Bendapudi.

• She was born in Visakhapatnam and moved to the United States in 1986 to pursue a doctorate in marketing at the University of Kansas.
• After that, in America itself, he made his career in the academic and teaching field.
• Neeli Bendapudi is the president of Penn State University.
• For nearly 30 years, Penn State University President Dr. Bendapudi has been working to foster student success, inclusive excellence in higher education, and create opportunities for students, faculty and staff.
• She is the first woman and the first white person to serve as Penn State's president.

'Immigrant Achievement Award'

• The award is given each year to an individual or organization for their commitment and dedication to American heritage.

• The award is given to an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to their communities and businesses.

हाल ही में भारतीय मूल की अमेरिकी नागरिक ‘नीली बेंदापुडी’(59) को प्रतिष्ठित‘इमिग्रेंट अचीवमेंट अवार्ड’ 2023 से सम्मानित किया गया।

ली बेंदापुडी

• इनका जन्म विशाखापत्तनम में हुआ था और 1986 में कंसास विश्वविद्यालय में विपणन में डॉक्टरेट की पढ़ाई करने के लिए संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका चली गयीं।
• तत्पश्चात अमेरिका में ही उन्होंने अकादमिक और शिक्षण क्षेत्र में अपना करियर बनाया।
• नीली बेंदापुडी ‘पेन स्टेट यूनिर्विसटी’ की अध्यक्ष हैं।
• ‘पेन स्टेट यूनिर्विसटी’ की अध्यक्ष डॉ. बेंदापुडी करीब 30 वर्ष से उच्च शिक्षा में छात्रों की सफलता, समावेशी उत्कृष्टता को बढ़ावा देने और छात्रों, संकाय तथा कर्मचारियों के लिए अवसर उत्पन्न करने के लिए काम कर रही हैं।
• वह पेन स्टेट की अध्यक्ष के रूप में सेवा करने वाली पहली महिला और श्वेत रंग की पहली व्यक्ति हैं।

‘इमिग्रेंट अचीवमेंट अवार्ड’

• अमेरिकी विरासत के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता और समर्पण के लिए यह पुरस्कार प्रत्येक वर्ष किसी व्यक्ति या संगठन को दिया जाता है।
• यह पुरस्कार उस व्यक्ति या संगठन को दिया जाता है जिसने अपने समुदायों और व्यवसायों में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया हो।
