South Korea's first commercial-grade satellite launched

Why in the news?

Recently South Korea launched its first commercial grade satellite.

Important point

• South Korea launched a commercial-grade satellite for the first time on Thursday as part of its growing space development programme, as rival North Korea pushes to put its first military spy satellite into orbit.
• The two Koreas, technically at war, have no military reconnaissance satellites of their own, and both are eager to keep them.

Commercial-grade satellite

• It was launched by the Naro Space Center in Gohang, South Korea using a Nuri rocket.
• The main satellite, called "Next Generation Small Satellite 2", took off into space carrying eight cube-shaped satellites.
• The main satellite objectives include verifying imaging radar technology and observing cosmic radiation in near-Earth orbit.
• The successful launch of all eight secondary satellites from the rocket was confirmed by South Korea's Science Minister Lee.
• South Korea plans to launch three more Nuri rockets by 2027.
• In the past year, South Korea became the 10th country to send a satellite into space using its technology, with a "performance verification satellite" launched via a Nuri rocket.

Its mission or purpose

• Its mission is to verify radar imaging techniques and to observe cosmic radiation in near-Earth orbit.

Importance

• The launch will help South Korea accumulate technologies and operate military spy satellites and build long-range missiles.
• South Korea became the 10th country in the world to send a satellite into space with its own technology.
• The launch boosted South Korea's hopes of joining the ranks of its Asian neighbors such as China, Japan and India.

What is Noori Rocket?

• Nuri, meaning "world" in native Korean is also known as KSLV-II (Korean Space Launch Vehicle-II).
• It is a three stage launch vehicle.
•  It is developed by South Korea and is the successor of Naro-1 (KSLV-1).
• Nuri has been developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).
• All three stages use indigenously developed launch vehicle engines, making Nuri the first indigenously developed South Korean orbital launch vehicle (the Naro-1 launch vehicle used a Russian-built first stage).

हाल ही में दक्षिण कोरिया द्वारा अपना पहला वाणिज्यिक ग्रेड उपग्रह लॉन्च किया गया।

महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु

• दक्षिण कोरिया ने अपने बढ़ते अंतरिक्ष विकास कार्यक्रम के हिस्से के रूप में गुरुवार को पहली बार एक वाणिज्यिक-ग्रेड उपग्रह लॉन्च किया, क्योंकि प्रतिद्वंद्वी उत्तर कोरिया अपने पहले सैन्य जासूसी उपग्रह को कक्षा में स्थापित करने पर जोर दे रहा है।
• दोनों कोरिया, तकनीकी रूप से युद्ध की स्थिति में हैं, उनके पास अपना कोई सैन्य टोही उपग्रह नहीं है और दोनों उन्हें अपने पास रखने के लिए उत्सुक हैं।

वाणिज्यिक-ग्रेड उपग्रह

• इसका  प्रक्षेपण नूरी रॉकेट का उपयोग करते हुए दक्षिण कोरिया के गोहंग में नारो अंतरिक्ष केंद्र द्वारा लॉन्च किया गया।
• मुख्य उपग्रह, जिसे "नेक्स्ट जनरेशन स्मॉल सैटेलाइट 2" कहा जाता है, आठ  क्यूब-आकार के उपग्रहों को साथ लेकर अंतरिक्ष के लिए रवाना हुआ।
• मुख्य उपग्रह के उद्देश्यों में इमेजिंग रडार तकनीक की पुष्टि करना और निकट-पृथ्वी की कक्षा में ब्रह्मांडीय विकिरण का निरीक्षण करना शामिल है।
• दक्षिण कोरिया के विज्ञान मंत्री ली द्वारा रॉकेट से सभी आठ माध्यमिक उपग्रहों के सफल प्रक्षेपण की पुष्टि की गई।
• दक्षिण कोरिया ने 2027 तक तीन और नूरी रॉकेट लॉन्च करने की योजना बनाई है।
• बीते वर्ष में, दक्षिण कोरिया नूरी रॉकेट के माध्यम से लॉन्च किए गए "प्रदर्शन सत्यापन उपग्रह" के साथ, अपनी तकनीक का उपयोग करके अंतरिक्ष में एक उपग्रह भेजने वाला 10वां देश बन गया।

इसका मिशन रडार इमेजिंग तकनीक को सत्यापित करना और निकट-पृथ्वी की कक्षा में ब्रह्मांडीय विकिरण का निरीक्षण करना है।

महत्व

• प्रक्षेपण से दक्षिण कोरिया को प्रौद्योगिकियों को संचित करने और सैन्य जासूसी उपग्रहों को संचालित करने और लंबी दूरी की मिसाइलों का निर्माण करने में मदद मिलेगी।
• दक्षिण कोरिया अपनी तकनीक के साथ अंतरिक्ष में एक उपग्रह भेजने वाला दुनिया का 10वां देश बन गया।
• इस प्रक्षेपण ने चीन, जापान और भारत जैसे उसके एशियाई पड़ोसी देशों की श्रेणी में शुमार होने की दक्षिण कोरिया की उम्मीदों को मजबूत किया है।

नूरी रॉकेट क्या है।

• नूरी, जिसका अर्थ है मूल कोरियाई में "दुनिया" जिसे KSLV-II ( कोरियाई अंतरिक्ष प्रक्षेपण वाहन-II ) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।
• यह एक तीन चरण का लॉन्च वाहन है।
•  यह दक्षिण कोरिया द्वारा विकसित है और Naro-1 (KSLV-1) का उत्तराधिकारी है ।
• नूरी को कोरिया एयरोस्पेस रिसर्च इंस्टीट्यूट (KARI) द्वारा विकसित किया गया है ।

• सभी तीन चरण स्वदेशी रूप से विकसित लॉन्च वाहन इंजन का उपयोग करते हैं, जिससे नूरी पहला स्वदेशी रूप से विकसित दक्षिण कोरियाई कक्षीय लॉन्च वाहन (नारो -1 लॉन्च वाहन ने रूसी निर्मित पहला चरण इस्तेमाल किया) बना दिया।
