In News:

  • Recently Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan has launched Skill India Digital Platform (SID).
  • According to government sources, 25 crore students and youth will be able to take advantage of this digital platform.
  • This platform will strengthen the eco-system of skill development, education, employment and entrepreneurship.

About 'Skill India Digital App':

  • It is a platform developed as a digital public infrastructure, where all the tools to promote skill development, education, employment and entrepreneurship are available.
  • The platform is driven by innovation in skills development with a focus on digital technology and Industry 4.0 skills.
  • It has been developed by National Skill Development Corporation.
  • This includes courses from Google, Microsoft, Cisco and Skill Council for Green Jobs.
  • This platform application can be downloaded from Apple App Store and Google Play Store and is available in multiple Indian languages.
  • It is a digital platform that aims to synergize and transform India's skill, education, employment and entrepreneurship landscape.
  • It aims to accelerate the recruitment of skilled talent and facilitate lifelong learning and career advancement.

Features:

  • It will be linked to DigiLocker and Aadhaar for issuing course completion certificate.
  • It will be linked to various portals like Udyam Portal, Eshram Portal, National Career Service and ASSEM Job Directory.
  • It will act as a marketplace for stakeholders to provide skills, acquire skills, find employment and provide employment.
  • The platform also provides industry relevant skill courses, employment opportunities and helps youth become entrepreneurs.
  • Skill India Digital provides easy-to-use interface for various devices
  • It supports multiple Indian languages, making it accessible to people from different backgrounds.
  • It provides secure access through Aadhaar-based eKYC.

About Skill India Mission:

  • This mission was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on July 15, 2015 with a view to make India self-reliant.
  • It is the first integrated national program of India.
  • The objective of this program is to develop industrial and entrepreneurial skills among Indians through training programmes,
  • And bridging the gap between industry demands and skill requirements.
  • About National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC):
  • In the Budget Speech (2008-09), the formation of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) was announced.
  • Launched with the aim of skill development, it is the first and only corporation in India to ensure participation of both private and government sectors.
  • This corporation is completely dedicated to providing maximum benefits to the unorganized sectors.

About Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana:

  • To boost employment in India, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana was launched on 23 March 2017.
