The recent launch of DAJGUA in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has surfaced in news.
ABOUT DAJGUA
- Background - Originally coined as the PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PM-JUGA), the scheme is a package for basic scheme saturation in tribal-majority villages.
- Its main aim is to address critical gaps in social infrastructure, health education and livelihood development across approximately 63,000 tribal villages.
- Over 5 crore tribal people across 30 states and Union Territories (UTs) are planned to be the beneficiaries in the overall welfare.
- Collaborative approach: It integrated 25 interventions across 17 ministries and departments of the Government of India.
- It is a centre-state funded scheme which focuses upon inclusivity of both centre and state.
- Tenure: 5 Years (2024-25 to 2028-29)
- PM Gati-shakti Portal will be leveraged as the monitoring partner for DAJGUA.

- Out of the current population as stated in the census of 2011, around 8.6% of the population are Scheduled Tribes.
- There are over 730 Scheduled Tribes notified under Article 342 of the Constitution of India.
- They face numerous challenges that affects their everyday life such as –
- Low education
- Poor health
- Displacement due to development projects, etc.
- Further initiatives for the empowerment of such section of the society, government takes various steps time to time in order to ensure their equal participation in the society and political sphere such as –
- Pradhan Mantri Adi Adarsh Gram Yojana
- Adivasi Mahila Sashaktikaran Yojna, etc.
