Educate Girls Wins 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award
Context
Educate Girls, an Indian NGO dedicated to enrolling out-of-school girls, has been awarded the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award.
It is the first Indian organisation, rather than an individual, to receive this honour, often described as “Asia’s Nobel Prize.”
About the Ramon Magsaysay Award What it is: Established: 1957, by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in memory of Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay, who died in a plane crash the same year. Eligibility: Individuals or organisations from Asia showing exceptional selfless service and dedication to society. Full Name: Foundation to Educate Girls Globally (commonly Educate Girls)
Founded: 2007 by Safeena Husain, an LSE graduate
Mission: To break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy by mobilising communities and governments to support girls’ education in rural and underserved areas.

Pragati Programme: Open schooling for young women (15–29 years) to complete secondary education.
