Why in the news?                                                                                                                                    

           Recently Indian Army contingent left for the 5th edition of India-Uzbekistan joint military exercise Dustlik.

 

About the 5th edition of India-Uzbekistan joint military exercise Dustlik:

  • The exercise is scheduled to be held in Termez, Republic of Uzbekistan from 15 to 28 April 2024.
  • The fourth edition of this exercise was held in Pithoragarh (India) in February 2023.
  • Tactical exercises practiced during the exercise included creation of a joint command post, establishment of an intelligence and surveillance center, landing site security, small team entry and extraction, special heliborne operations, cordon and search operations, room interdiction exercises and demolitions. Will be included.
  • The complexity of this edition of Exercise Dustlik has been enhanced with the conduct of multi domain operations as the contingent includes personnel from combat support arms and services in addition to infantry.
  • Two women officers are also part of the IA team in this exercise, one from the Artillery Regiment and the other from the Army Medical Corps.

 

Importance:

  • Exercise 'Dustlik' will enable both sides to share their best practices in tactics, techniques and procedures in conducting joint operations.
  • This exercise will help in developing inter-operation, camaraderie and camaraderie between the troops of both the countries.
  • This will also increase the level of defense cooperation and will further boost bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

 

About India-Uzbekistan joint military exercise Dustlik:

  • The 60-personnel Indian Armed Forces contingent is being represented by 45 personnel from the Indian Army, predominantly a battalion of the Jat Regiment, and 15 personnel from the Indian Air Force.
  • The Uzbekistan contingent, consisting of approximately 100 personnel from the Uzbekistan Army and Air Force, will be represented by personnel from the Southern Operational Command, part of the South-West Military District.
  • Exercise Dustlik is an annual event held alternately in India and Uzbekistan.
  • Exercise Dustlik aims to boost military cooperation and enhance joint capabilities to carry out joint operations in mountainous and semi-urban terrain.
  •  The exercises focus on high levels of physical fitness, joint planning, joint tactical exercises and the fundamentals of special weapons skills.
  • The first edition of this exercise was held in Uzbekistan in November 2019.
