 Why in the news?                  

            According to recent news, the world's largest renewable energy park is being set up in Khavra region of Gujarat by Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL).

 

Important points:

  • Adani Group chief Gautam Adani announced an investment of about Rs 1.5 lakh crore to develop 30 GW of renewable energy by 2030.
  • This initiative is in line with India's broader goals of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
  • This ambitious project underlines India's commitment to transition towards non-fossil fuel energy sources and contribute significantly to global sustainability efforts.

 

About Khavra Renewable Energy Park:

  • The Khavra region in Gujarat, a barren land near the Pakistan border, is being transformed into the world's largest renewable energy park by Adani Green Energy Ltd.
  • It is the largest renewable energy park in the world.
  • The park is spread over 538 square kilometers, which is almost five times the size of Paris.
  • The park has an impressive capacity of 45 GW powered primarily by solar energy.
  • The park is located in Khavra in the Kutch region of Gujarat, with an impressive capacity of 45 GW primarily powered by solar energy.
  • The region has the second best solar radiation in the country after Ladakh and wind speeds are five times higher than the plains.
  • Located just one kilometer from the international border with Pakistan, the energy park maintains a buffer zone manned by the Border Security Force (BSF).
  • Originally accessible only by a modest airstrip without air traffic control, the site is now ripe for a significant clean energy enterprise.
  • AGEL will invest about Rs 1.5 lakh crore to generate 30 MW of clean power. This will include 26 GW solar and 4 GW wind capacity.
  • Khavra Park is estimated to generate a maximum of 81 billion units of electricity, which is capable of powering entire countries like Belgium, Chile and Switzerland.
