Why in the news?
Recently the third land port at Sabroom in South Tripura was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Important points:
- A modern land port at Sabroom along with 11 projects in Tripura were also inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
About Sabroom Land Port:
- Sabroom Land Port is strategically located on the international border with Bangladesh in the South Tripura district of Tripura state, India.
- This is the southernmost tip of Tripura, bordering Bangladesh.
- It plays an important role in connecting India and Bangladesh, facilitating cross-border trade.
- Sabroom is directly connected to Chittagong port of Bangladesh through the Friendship Bridge on Feni River, which is about 75 km from the proposed land port.
- The land port provides facilities such as passenger terminal buildings, cargo administrative buildings and warehouses.
- Sabroom Land Port aims to increase connectivity and promote trade between India and South East Asia.
- The foundation stone of this Sabroom Land Port was laid in 2021.
- The land port was located on the India-Bangladesh international border and would have facilities including cargo administrative building, fire station building, passenger terminal building, warehouse, pump house, electrical substation.
