Miyawaki Method

  • Karnataka’s Yakalaspura dumpsite was successfully transformed into a micro-forest under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0.
  • Developed in 1970s by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, this technique enables rapid, ultra-dense native afforestation.
  • Requires multi-layered canopy structures, random arrangements, and high-density planting of 3 to 5 saplings per square meter.
  • Promotes biodiversity, mitigates Urban Heat Island effects, and enhances local carbon sequestration under National Forest Policy.

 

 

 

Draft SHANTI Rules 2026

  • The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) introduced draft rules to operationalise the SHANTI Act, 2025 framework.
