  • Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of India International Convention and Expo Center Yashobhoomi (IICC).

  • It is Asia's largest MICE (Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Exhibition) center built in Dwarka, Delhi. Which is an important milestone in India's journey towards hosting world class events.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also launched the PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana on 17 September 2023 during the inauguration of this centre.
  • People associated with 18 businesses will benefit from this scheme. For this, an outlay (fund) of Rs 13 thousand crore will be created.

About Yashobhoomi Convention Centre:

  • 'Yashobhoomi' is a notable convention and expo center which is an important component of the India International Convention and Expo Center (IICC) located in Dwarka, New Delhi.
  • It is a visionary project which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday on September 17, 2023. 'Yashobhoomi' Convention and Expo Center is designed to enhance India's position in hosting conventions, conferences and exhibitions by providing world-class infrastructure for such events.
  • 'Yashobhoomi' is one of the largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) venues globally.
  • 'Yashobhoomi' is committed to sustainability with features such as state-of-the-art waste water treatment system, provision for rain water harvesting and the prestigious Platinum Certification from CII's Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for its eco-friendly campus.
  • Yashobhoomi has been built on 219 acres at a cost of about Rs 5400 crore. At the same time, Bharat Mandapam located at Pragati Maidan has been prepared on 123 acres.
  • It also emphasizes on visitor safety through advanced security measures and provides ample electric charging points for sustainable transportation in its underground parking facility.

Features of Yashobhoomi Convention Centre:

  • The convention center has a seating capacity of more than 11000 people.
  • 15 convention rooms, grand ballroom and 13 meeting rooms have been built in it.
  • The Plenary Hall of the Convention Center will give a global level experience to the visitors.
  • The government has built it at a cost of approximately Rs 5400 crore.
  • It is spread over an area of more than 219 acres.
  • The convention center within 'Yashobhoomi' covers a vast expanse of 73 thousand square meters and comprises of 15 convention rooms, such as the Main Auditorium, Grand Ballroom and 13 versatile meeting rooms.
  • The Plenary Hall can seat approximately 6,000 attendees, and the Grand Ballroom can host approximately 2,500 guests.
  • The country's largest LED screen will be installed in this convention center.
  • The center offers innovative seating arrangements, wooden floors and acoustic wall panels for a world-class experience.
  • 'Yashobhoomi' is one of the most expensive exhibition halls in the world, spread over 1.07 lakh square meters.
  • These halls are designed to host exhibitions, trade fairs and business events and are seamlessly connected to a grand lobby area with an attractive copper ceiling for natural light filtering.
  • 3000 cars can be parked simultaneously in the underground parking built in the convention center. Drainage water can be reused in this centre. Besides, this center also has the facility of rain water harvesting.
  • This convention center is bigger than Bharat Mandapam, where the G-20 meeting was held on 9 and 10 September.
